This is the photograph
of my maternal grandfather, Shri Om Prakash Sharma, who miraculously becomes a
devotee of Shri Nathji is the last days of His life. Shri Nathji entered his
body and gave him direct commandment, which he followed dutifully.
Shri Om Prakash
Sharma was born on 28th October 1929 in Ambala district of Haryana. His
father Shiv Sham Sharma was a Head clerk in the Punjab irrigation department at
Nangal. His mother’s name was Krishna. He did his graduation from Gandhi
Memorial National College in Ambala. After that he went to Calcutta and did
various businesses. He started with trading in chemicals and then moved to hardware
and then motor parts. His was a very honest man and it is said that he never
spoke a lie even in business dealings and was very pure hearted. He had settled
in Calcutta and had a house at Sham Bazzar. He married Shila Sharma on 20th
June 1953. She was a very educated lady who had grown up in Lahore till
partition and studied at Dev Samaj College in Ambala. She used to stay at
Nisbat Road in Lahore. She still recalls Anarkali area in Lahore which was the
home of Maha Mateshwariji’s father, Lala Hargopal. She says it was one of the
most important shopping areas of Lahore. They first had one daughter, Sudha, my
mother, followed by three sons.
In my family only
Shri Gopal Swami, who was my father’s maternal cousin brother was a devotee of Shri
Nathji. My parents came to know about Shri Nathji from Gopal Swamiji, who was
considered to be an elder and wise man in our family. When I had left home in
search of God and was living in temples, my parents were very disturbed as I
was there only son. So they came to the Darbar of HH Priya Nathji and prayed
that I may return home. So my parent stated to attend the 22nd June
function at the Darbar. Om Prakash Sharma had build a house in Chandigarh as
well, were one of his sons was living. In 2000 my mother asked her parents if
they would also like to come for the function. My grandmother Shila had an
intense inner feeling that she must go. She persuaded her husband Om Prakash
Sharma also to come. But he didn’t had any faith in modern spiritual gurus,
thus was not inclined to come. Shilla then said that, you just think you are
going on a vacation to a hill station. I have seen many hill stations like Kashmir,
Shimla etc. but I have never been to Mussoorie. So just go with our daughter
and see Mussoorie. So that’s how she convinced Om Prakash Sharma to also come
along. So my father, mother and grandparents went to Mussoorie for the
function. When Shila Shama saw HH Priya Nathji for the first time, she thought
that now her husband would be very angry at her. They came to have darshan of a
Spiritual master but what is it that we see there. A man is silk suite, wearing
an English hat, sitting on a fancy chair with expensive shawl on his legs
looking every bit like a rich man of royal lineage. My husband who was as such
unwilling to come will certainly be angry at me for bringing him here, to see a
well suited booted man who her daughter claims to be a great spiritual
personality.
When Om Prakash Sharma came before HH Priya
Nathji he bowed as others did and HH Priya Nathji immediately embraced him.
When Shila Sharma came before HH Priya Nathji she bowed and for some unknown
reason immediately began crying. She was not able to control her weeping throughout
the function. It was not in her control. When all were about to leave, HH Priya
Nathji said that all that who have come here today have not come here on their
own but have been brought here by His divine will. All the time during the function
and on the return journey and even after reaching Chandigarh, Shri Om Prakash
Sharma didn’t spoke a word. He never shared his experience, about Mussoorie.
His behavior changed and he become more and more silent and lost in his own
world. He begins murmuring some name and counted it on his fingers.
Om Prakash Sharma was a very active person
with athletic build and had no serious aliment. But for some unknown reason he
began to get weaker and weaker day by day. He seems to have lost interest in
the world and it seems that he has achieved in life what he wanted and had no
apparent reason to continue to be in this body. Then he had what seemed like a
heart attack. He was taken to the Hospital. He stayed there for around twelve
days but his conditions continued to deteriorate. He will shifted to the
intensive care unit were the doctors had already given up hope on him. It was
the 5th of March 2000, when a miracle happened. Shri Om Prakash
Sharma was in the intensive care unit with an oxygen mask and different tubes
inserted in his body. He was being monitored by different diagnostic machines
which were displaying disturbing readings. Then suddenly Om Prakash Sharma got
up and sat on his bed. He removed the oxygen mask and said in a loud and very clear
Hindi, which was not his normal way of speaking. It was in the tone and style
of Shri Nathji. He said -
“ OM Prakash ji Aab
App Bilkul Theek Hai. Aapko kuch Nahi Hua. Khare Ho Jaiya. Aap Ampi Lungi Theek
Kejiye. Aab App Apne Ghar Jaiye. Par Jana Apni car Me Hai”
OM Prakashji you are now
completely all right. There is nothing wrong with you. Get up now. Adjust your
Lungi (a traditional garment worn around the waist) Now you will go home. But
go in your own car.
All this while, he
was also saying the words “Achaji ; Ji
Nathji” – As you say; Yes Nathji!” in his own style and tone of voice. It was
like from inside him, one voice was of HH Shri Nathji, in form of commandment
and the other voice was his own, which was acknowledging the orders.
There was one person
who was on the other bed in the hospital. Om Prakash Sharma looked towards him
and told him in the same commanding voice. He said that exactly after four days
you will get all right. Your pain will disappear and you will go home. Do not
worry.
When all this was
happening, there were four other people from my family in the room. One was my
Father, Shri M.L. Gaur and others were Om Prakash Sharma’s two sons and one
daughter in law. The daughter in law was very scared and said that father has
gone mad or some spirit has taken possession over him body. My father said that
in that case why is he taking the name of Nathji. It must be that Nathji has
entered his body. Om Prakash Sharma began taking out all the tubes that were
inserted in his body. Doctors and nurses came and were surprised to see that
all the diagnostic instruments were showing the reading of a perfectly healthy
human body. While they were in the discussion, as to how it was possible, Om
Prakash Sharma began to leave the hospital.
In the meantime my
uncle Gopal Swamiji reached the hospital to meet my grandfather. Om Prakash
Sharma said to that Gopalji, that Nathji came and said I am now all right.
There is nothing wrong with me. Gopal Swami said he knows that. Shri Nathji had
also spoken to me about the same, but you stay one more day in hospital. You leave
for home tomorrow. Om Prakash Sharma came home next day. He kept on counting some
name on his fingers, but he never told anyone what he was doing. He also never
spoke about Shri Nathji. Nor he ever interacted with HH Priya Nathji whom he
had met only once in his life. He was getting very week though. He said to her
wife to recite for him Nath Chalisa seven times every day, as he was himself
too weak to read.
On the night of 27th
of September 2001, he suddenly started to speak to his wife at 12 o clock at
night.. He spoke continuously on a lot of topics to his wife till 4.30 in the
morning. Shila Sharma was surprised as to why her husband to speaking so much.
He also told her what she must do in future. At 4.30 Sheela Sharma insisted that
you must sleep now. He said that now it is not the time for me to sleep. It is
time for me to do my “Path – Worship.” You sleep now. Then he said to her, “ look at your feet; they are swollen in pain. You
do not take proper care of your health. Let me press it “and saying that, he
touched them. She protested and said, “No!
do not touch my feet, but as she said that, she was suddenly overwhelmed by an
intense feeling of peace and calm and was asleep. She didn’t know what happened
then. In the morning when she woke up, she found her husband sitting by her
side. He went to the bathroom and also washed all this cloths by himself. He
dressed well. Then he combed his hair. He asked his wife to get him the breakfast,
from the kitchen. Then after few minutes when Sheela Sharma came to give him
his breakfast, she found him lying peacefully on the bed. He was lying in the
yogic posture named Shava Asana. She was surprised as to why he is lying down
when he had asked for breakfast. She tried to wake him and then she realized that
he has died. It was the 28th of September 2001. The time was 9.20 in
the morning. Shri OM Prakash Shama died a very peaceful death. He had met HH
Priya Nathji only once and that too unintentionally, without his own will. But
that one meeting was enough to saturate his soul with divine bliss, for the
rest of his life and beyond.
